Coastal Douglas Fir

from Coastal Douglas Fir by ShaYne

/

about

The Coast Douglas Fir is native to the western United States, Canada, and a few pockets in Mexico. It grows and spreads rapidly, mixing easily with oak and redwood forests. The cones and wood are sweet (the sap is one of the richest smells I have ever encountered), and it is an important source of timber. The needles are soft, and you can brush and rub against them (unlike California Redwoods, which are prickly and awful). The Coast Douglas Fir is not a fir at all -- it is in its own genus. It's about as much a "fir" as sweet potatoes are "yams." True firs have cones that point upward, but Douglas Firs' cones point down.

This track, like the first track of my previous album "The Hero," was born out of a remix contest for someone else's song. I took out all the copyrighted parts and used my own sounds and music to create a new piece.
