about

This is the most beautiful piece on the EP. When I composed it, I had just come back from a trip to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks in California. The majesty of the mountains and rivers were my inspiration. It's in three movements. First you really feel like you're in a dark Sequoia forest, then you move out across sharp peaks and crags (the dubstep section), and finally you go river-rafting down the tumbling cascades of the Kings River (the Tangerine Dream-like section).

Kings River probably had the most changes to it in the new version. A lot of the sounds were from the modular synth and simply couldn't come out the same since there were no presets I could call up. A lot of guesswork had to be made. In the original recording of the River section, the TD-esque sequence used a Dunlop Carbon Copy analog delay that soon switched to a digital plugin because the Carbon Copy didn't sound that great in the mix once everything else came in. This time I used the Boss DM-2w and it was much better, so I could use it all the way through. The creamy lead in the final part of the piece is from the Dave Smith Mopho X4 and it sounds Uber-glossy in this new recording compared to the original. I love the way it all came together, and I hope you do too!
